How it Started

The Black Expo is produced by the creators of the Virginia Black Film Festival and the Miami Web Series Festival. The Virginia Black Film Festival’s generated high levels of community involvement and vendor interest, which prompted the team to create a separate event dedicated to helping the community find and support Black-owned businesses while helping those same businesses meet and support each other. That’s why The Black Expo is more than just an event. It is a community…and a movement.

Our Mission

Black-owned businesses face challenges that are unique and complex. Managing rising overhead costs while building a brand and maintaining quality products and services is extremely difficult. Our mission is to help Black-owned businesses survive and thrive in the modern era by connecting those who want to “Buy Black” with quality vendors and exhibitors ready to build a community based on customer satisfaction and collaboration. Expert speakers at the Black Expo educate the community on issues like grants, loans, tax strategy, branding, investment, and other topics designed to build more resilient Black Business Community. Finally, the Black Expo is about Celebrating the Culture. That’s why we bring high-energy live entertainment, creating the ultimate celebration of Culture and Community, free for all of Hampton Roads to enjoy!
